Computational Biophysicist
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking computational chemists and biologists, as well as other computational scientists with a track record of achievement, to join our New York-based team. Relevant areas of experience might include direct application of molecular dynamics or other computational methods to drug discovery, investigation of conformational changes relevant to the function of protein kinases, ion channels, or other biomolecules, structural modeling of protein-protein complexes involved in signal transduction or other cellular processes, or study of fundamental biophysical problems, such as protein and RNA folding. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a history of innovation and accomplishment.
Computational Chemist and Physicist
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking computational and theoretical chemical physicists, as well as applied mathematicians and other computational scientists with a strong background in theory and a track record of achievement, to join our New York-based team. Relevant areas of experience might include the development of methods for molecular dynamics simulations, such as integrators or efficient approximations of long-range forces, methods for enhanced sampling or free-energy calculations, or statistical approaches for analyzing large data sets. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a history of innovation and accomplishment.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking pre-clinical translational scientists with experience in drug discovery to join our New York–based team. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that affords the opportunity to help shape our drug discovery programs. Relevant areas of experience include leadership of pre-clinical drug discovery programs, design of in vitro assays as well as in vivo disease models, and formulation of translational plans. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research and communication skills, and a record of impact in drug discovery.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking Ph.D. level scientists to join our New York based team. Relevant areas of experience might include direct application of molecular dynamics or machine learning to drug discovery, computer-aided drug design, molecular modeling, cheminformatics, fragment-based approaches, medicinal chemistry, biochemical and biophysical assay development, or target analysis and selection. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a history of innovation and accomplishment. Successful candidates will directly further the group's drug discovery aims. This is anticipated to be a three-year position.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking scientists with experience in computational drug discovery or related areas to join our New York-based team. Areas of experience relevant to our molecular dynamics-based drug discovery efforts include molecular modeling, fragment-based drug design, cheminformatics, and medicinal chemistry. An ability to leverage experimental data to inform computational approaches would be a plus, as would knowledge of structural biology. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a record of impact in drug discovery. Successful candidates will directly contribute to projects within our expanding portfolio of drug discovery programs, which we pursue both independently and in collaboration with leaders in academia and industry.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking scientists with expertise in force field development to join our New York-based team. Relevant areas of experience might include development of physics-based force fields, modeling of polarization and quantum effects, novel parameterization strategies (for example, machine learning, statistical inference, or multi-objective methods), ligand and small molecule parameterization, and force field validation and verification. Specific knowledge of any particular area is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a record of innovation and accomplishment. Successful candidates will contribute to the development of more accurate force fields for biomolecular simulation.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking postdoctoral fellows to join our New York-based team. This is a unique opportunity to develop and work with transformative technology in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. Candidates should have expertise in computational chemistry, biology, or physics, or in a relevant area of computer science or applied mathematics. Possible research areas for postdoctoral fellows span the scientific interests of the group, and include drug discovery, applied computational chemistry and biophysics, methodology development, and force field development.
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking early-career scientists and engineers with impressive records of achievement to join the group on a full-time basis. Serious consideration will be given to candidates with strong quantitative abilities, excellent communication skills, and a bachelor's or master's degree in the natural sciences and/or engineering. Successful candidates will work closely with a number of the world's leading biochemists, electrical engineers, and computer scientists, and will have the opportunity to make groundbreaking contributions within the fields of biology, chemistry, and medicine. Scientific Associates are expected to commit to D. E. Shaw Research for a minimum of two years; following their time at D. E. Shaw Research, previous Scientific Associates have gone on to top Ph.D. programs in the country and abroad.
